Early Life
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Lois Kim was taught the art of sewing and hand knitting at the age of eight years old by her seamstress mother. What started out as sewing and knitting Barbie's clothes, led her to pursue a BFA in Fashion at Moore College of Art & Design.
Her first job was as a consultant at Suky Rosan, a renown bridal shop in Ardmore, PA. Soon after having built up a clientele, Lois was able to design custom gowns and dresses for Philadelphia's Old City/Society Hill Union League Galas.
Career
Deciding to chase her dream, Lois went to New York and landed an internship at Cynthia Steffe. Six days into the internship she was asked to join the team as an Assistant Designer. Overjoyed to start in the city of hopes and dreams, she packed two suitcases and moved that week of 4th of July, 2007. There she learned the glamorous life of curating a concept to life. A defining moment in her life soon came during the show of Spring 2010. She designed a fringe skirt, which had droplets of hand sewn chains and fresh-water pearls. The shimmering liquid movement caught the eye of Taylor Swift, who custom ordered the show piece. She was soon promoted to acquire the position of Trim R&D Manager; where she held the responsibility to design and development innovative embellishments concepts that became inspirational drivers for each season's runway collection.
During the three years at Cynthia Steffe, Lois was mentored by Shaun Kearney. Inspired by the process of design and development of knitwear she decided to pursue her ultimate goal and refine her career path. In 2011, she landed an Assistant Sweater Designer position at Caché. The next 4 years were recognized in her innovative designs as she moved up to become a Designer.
Her sweater jackets and jacquard skirt brought selling up to highest in company history. Through the growth of her category she then promoted to take on an additional title as Woven Tops Designer. Her innovative silhouettes and placed print tops soon became best sellers. Reports continuously validated the steady increase of the progression of her categories.
In January of 2016, Lois was recruited to join the Julia Haart team. The luxury shoe company was looking to expand their line to add a complimentary RTW collection. Lois was personally recommended by the product development team of her design and technical attributes. Soon after the launch, the new collection caught the legendary eyes of La Perla.
Few months into landing a collaboration with La Perla, Lois was asked to join the team as Julia Haart became the new Creative Director of La Perla. Lois designed and expanded La Perla's brand with a new Ready to Wear Collection and knitwear collection. She worked closely with Julia on multiple aspects of the brands categories such as RTW, knitwear, shoes, accessories and CAD prints.
Living in New York and in Bologna, Italy; she was able to broaden her horizon by establishing relationships with luxury yarn mills and factories.
While designing and working closely factories in Milan and Bologna, Italy she was able to acquire the techniques and technical skills used by the legendary fashion houses of Italian History.
Lois created designs that graced the runways of La Perla and produced luxury knitwear product line that was sought out by Bergdorf Goodman.
